The 10–20 KB signature rule
A large number of Indian application forms – SSC, IBPS and other recruitment, banking, university and scholarship portals – ask for a signature image between 10 and 20 KB. Phone photos are hundreds of times bigger, and simply compressing them leaves a blurry, oversized image. This preset crops, resizes and compresses in one step.
What is preset
The crop box is locked to the 140:60 landscape shape, the output is 140 × 60 pixels (the IBPS size), and the file size must land between 10 and 20 KB. These are sensible defaults, not an official specification. If your notification lists exact pixels, such as 140 × 60, type them into the width and height fields before creating the file.
Getting a crisp signature
- Sign on clean white paper with a dark pen.
- Photograph straight on, in daylight, without your shadow over the page.
- Crop close to the ink with a little margin all round.
If the tool cannot meet the range
You will see the closest size it managed and why. A very detailed or noisy photo may stay above 20 KB; retake it with better light. Need a photo as well? The Exam photo and signature resizer handles both, and Resize image to 20 KB works when no pixel size is fixed.
Signature tips that pass first time
- Black ink on white paper. Black or dark-blue gel pen; avoid ruled or coloured paper.
- Crop tightly. Leave only a thin margin around the ink – empty paper adds bytes and makes the signature look tiny.
- Typical pixel sizes: 140 × 60 px (IBPS) and 280 × 120 px are common on Indian forms; type your form’s numbers into the width and height fields.
- Whiten the background. Shoot in daylight with no shadow; a grey cast lowers contrast and wastes bytes. Raise brightness slightly before uploading if the paper looks grey.
- Sign the same way as on your ID. Many forms reject signatures in capital letters.
