What is Add page numbers?
Add page numbers stamps a number on every page – or a chosen range – of a PDF. You can place numbers at the top or bottom, left, centre or right, and use formats like “1”, “Page 1” or “1 of 12”. Numbers are positioned using each page’s own size and rotation, so mixed A4 and Letter pages or rotated scans still look right.
When to use it
- Number a thesis or dissertation before submission.
- Add “Page X of Y” to a contract so missing pages are obvious.
- Number exhibits and annexures for legal filings.
- Paginate a merged document made from several sources.
Tips for the best result
- Start number lets you begin at, say, 3 if a cover and contents come first.
- Use a page range like 3-20 to skip the cover pages.
- A 10–12 pt font is readable without dominating the page.
Limits and privacy
Numbers are drawn in Helvetica in dark grey. Encrypted PDFs need unlocking first. Processing happens entirely in your browser, so your data never leaves your device and there is nothing to sign up for. Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
