Getting under 10 KB
Some Indian forms cap signatures or small photos at 10 KB. Phone photos are 3–5 MB, so the image needs to be resized and compressed hard. This preset sets a 9.5 KB target and a 300 px longest side, so the result stays at 10 KB or less with readable pen strokes.
| Image | Pixels that usually fit 10 KB | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Signature (ink on white) | 140 × 60 to 300 × 150 px | Crop tightly |
| Small photo | 200 × 230 px | Plain background |
| Thumb impression | 240 × 240 px | Even ink |
These are starting points; the result shows the exact KB. If the form fixes both pixels and KB, use the exam photo and signature resizer or the signature resize to 20 KB page, which also enforce the 10 KB minimum.
Common rejection reasons
- File outside the KB range (too big or too small).
- Wrong format – the portal expects JPG/JPEG, not PNG or HEIC (convert iPhone photos with HEIC to JPG).
- Coloured or shadowed background instead of plain white.
- Face too small, ears hidden, or a cap, mask or dark glasses.
- Signature in CAPITAL letters, in pencil, or on lined paper.
