A practical size for documents and the web
100 KB is a common cap for scanned documents uploaded as images (Aadhaar, marksheets, certificates), and it is a sensible size for product photos and blog images. It keeps pages fast without making text in a scan hard to read.
What this preset changes
The target-size mode is switched on with 100 KB filled in, and the original resolution is kept. Most phone photos fit 100 KB at full resolution with moderate compression; if not, the tool tells you the closest size and suggests reducing the dimensions.
Tips for scans and screenshots
- Photograph documents flat, in good light, and crop the edges.
- Screenshots and graphics are usually PNG; tick “Convert to WebP” or convert them with PNG to JPG for a far smaller file.
- For many images at once, add them all; you can download the batch as a ZIP.
Honest results
Every image gets a note: “Within 10% of the 100 KB target”, “Under the target” or “Closest achievable” with the real size. Nothing is uploaded; compression runs in a Web Worker on your device. Need it smaller? See the 50 KB or 20 KB presets.
Pixel dimensions that fit 100 KB
| Image type | Pixels that usually fit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait photo | 800–1200 px longest side | Looks clean on screen |
| Scanned document as image | 1000–1400 px longest side | Text stays legible |
| Product / blog image | 1000–1200 px wide | Good balance for the web |
These are starting points, not guarantees: a noisy, detailed photo needs fewer pixels than a plain one at the same KB.
