Why people convert JPG to PNG
Some upload forms, design tools, sticker makers and print services ask specifically for PNG. PNG is also the safer format when you plan to edit an image several times, because each JPG save throws away a little more detail while PNG stores the pixels exactly.
Set expectations
Converting to PNG freezes the image at its current quality. It does not sharpen it or bring back detail that JPG compression removed. It also does not cut out the background; for that you would need a separate background-removal tool.
PNG will not improve quality
This is the most common misunderstanding. A JPG that looks soft or blocky will look exactly as soft or blocky as a PNG – just in a bigger file. Convert only when an app needs PNG or you will re-edit the image several times.
File size
Because PNG is lossless, a 2 MB JPG photo can become 6–10 MB as PNG. If a form has a size limit, check the result size before you upload, or stay with JPG and use Compress image instead.
Other handy conversions
PNG to JPG does the reverse for smaller files, and WebP to JPG handles images saved from websites. Every conversion runs locally in your browser.
